My grandmother passed away on Sunday. It was sudden, but not. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there, but she went peacefully, with family at her side. Thinking back it was really beautiful to think about my life with her and with my grandfather. Since I was a young boy they took me all over the country for weeks at a time in the various RVs they owned. At every opportunity they were always doing everything they could to broaden my horizons, both literally and figuratively. With them I saw most of the West and Midwest, which I think sparked my love both for the landscape, and people, of the US and the car as the vehicle for both my mind and body to explore the soul of this country. With them, and with my parents, there was never a question as to my worth as a human, the value of my thoughts and needs, and the priceless quality of my development as a person, which they always sought to further. Such a gift can never be repaid or fully honored except by passing it on, which I hope to do with as much love as they did.
Thank you, Grandma.
