I've been meaning to post more, but haven't really had much to say. Not sure why...but here's some new stuff.
I've been watching some music videos with Amia. It's really interesting to watch her watch them. She really takes them in, really looks at how the performers move and then some of those moves end up in her dance moves. One of her favorite shows (and probly my favorite kid show) is the Backyardigans, which is a group of friends that have imaginary adventures in their backyard and each episode is set to a different kind of musical genre. There's funk, psychadelic, soul, hip hop, 80s pop, jazz, even bollywood. And the dances the characters do are from that kind of music. Once she started watching that show she started doing the funkiest, graceful moves when she'd dance. It's really cool to watch.
So here are two of her (and my) favorite videos. The first is one My Doorbell by the White Stripes. She loves watching the kids reactions and really likes the song too. I like it because if I was a musician I would have concerts like this every day, including the a candy bar (just sans the puffed up attitude the Whites are playing at).
And the second song is Maps by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (or the Saysaysay song as Amia calls it). She's liked this song for a long time and we just watched the video. Amia was listening to this song and Cheated Hearts from their most recent album and asked who the singer was. I said, Karen O, then asked why she wanted to know. Amia replied, "Because she sings so beautifully." She really likes this video and I really like the performance Karen gives. It's so like tough or something, telling her loved one to stay, but also so vulnerable. I've never seen anyone cry on a video or onstage like this, except for Sufjan in the Danielson Famile Movie. Gets me every time.
